MTV's Musical March Madness Championship Round!
I haven't really been keeping up with the basketball season here in the U.S. (shocking, I know), but I have been checking out MTV's Musical March Madness competition. I didn't vote at all; too many of the bands going head-to-head were "both favorites," as comedian Brian Regan would say. But the final round has advanced, the opponents being Green Day and Paramore. Now, I really like Paramore. Not only does the lead singer have awesome (if not entirely natural) red hair, but they've got a lot of great punkish hits like "Misery Business" (my favorite of theirs), and they do great covers of great songs, like "Faces in Disguise" by Sunny Day Real Estate.
Unfortunately, though, I'd still have to pick Green Day. Their album American Idiot is without question my favorite album of all time. They have the melodic genius that most punk bands lack, and are extremely versatile in their material. (Don't believe me? Play "Hitchin' A Ride." Good. Now play "Last Night on Earth." See what I mean?) And yeah, they've kind of "sold out" in the past decade - but isn't the point of forming a band to become commercially successful?
Vote here.

I'm leaning Paramore.. even though her red locks are fake. And I usually frown on that. But because I got bored of Green Day and they haven't captured my attention again since Good Morning Revival's "Dance Floor Anthem."
ReplyDeleteThat is true . . . their last CD was less than stellar. :)
