James Durbin: Idol's Rocker?
For those of you who don't watch American Idol (like me), you missed last night's performance by James Durbin, who became the first to cover Judas Priest on the Idol stage with "You've Got Another Thing Comin'."
I've got mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, I'm inclined not to take Idol winners that seriously, as the only ones who have really broke into the big time are Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Daughtry. And Durbin looks like a wanna-be tween with his bandanna and faux-hawk. I also tend to respect musicians who make it on their own, without the assistance of a reality game show.
But if you watch this performance, you'll quickly see that Durbin can walk the walk. He's got the perfect voice to cover a Priest song, with that power and charisma that Rob Halford had in his voice. And though he got voted off last night (if you haven't watched it by now, you never will), it will be interesting to see where this takes him.
Watch for Steven Tyler's ecstatic reaction in the video.
